Is an electric rice cooker worth it? Can it do more than cook rice? Do you need a rice cooker to make perfect rice? How do they work; We have the answers!

The functionality of the electric rice cooker is both simple and mysterious. You add water and rice—any kind of rice, with as much water as needed—and press ON. Then, a few minutes later, the rice is perfectly cooked...and the rice cooker magically knows it. At that point, it automatically switches to WARM and your cooked rice remains at a perfectly steaming serving temperature.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Wash very well the amount of rice you want to cook.

Rice goes through a lot before it gets boiled in your home, so it needs to be rinsed and cleaned properly. Bagged rice is also dry, so it needs to be slightly rehydrated before boiling.

Most importantly, due to the rice manufacturing process, each grain will have a starchy residue that needs to be cleaned.

2. Place the rice in the aluminum container of the electric kettle.

3. Add the appropriate amount of water depending on the amount of rice you want to cook.

Basmati rice - Basmati rice is long and aromatic and is used mainly in Indian recipes. If you have rinsed the rice before cooking, you will only need 1 cup of water for 1 cup of rice. If you have not rinsed the rice, you will need 1 ½ cups of water for 1 cup of rice. It will take 15 minutes to cook.

Jasmine Rice - Similar to basmati rice, jasmine rice is a fine and aromatic long grain rice. It requires 1 cup of rice with 1 cup of water and takes about 15 to cook.

Sushi rice - The ratio of rice to water should be 1:1, but it is necessary once it is ready not to open the lid and let it cook for at least another 10 minutes with the remaining steam. There is no need to drain the rice after cooking. Before cooking, rinse the rice in a colander under cold water until the water runs clear.

Sticky Rice - Traditionally, sticky rice is steamed, but you can also make sticky rice in your electric rice cooker with perfect results. Soak the rice for at least 30 minutes to ensure nice even cooking, as the grains have a hard outer shell that makes it more difficult to cook. For every 2 cups of rice, add 2 ½ cups of water.

Wild rice - Wild rice, like brown rice, needs a lot of water and a lot of cooking time. It is recommended to put 1 cup of rice with 2 cups of water and it will take about 30 minutes to cook.

White Rice - White short grain (glazed) rice requires 1 cup rice to 1 ¼ water and takes 15 minutes to cook. White long grain rice requires 1 cup of rice with 1½ cups of water and 18 minutes of cooking.

Brown and Red Rice - Brown medium and short grain rice needs 1 cup of rice to 2 cups of water. Brown long grain rice requires 1 cup rice with 1 ¾ cup water. Brown rice is generally the healthiest choice, as it is full of fiber and less processed than other types of rice, although it takes a little longer to cook. (40 minutes)

4. Close the electric steamer.

Once the rice is ready the button will automatically turn to WARM mode.

Rice can stay warm for several hours, with very little power consumption. If you wish to reheat it later, top up with some water and press the button again!
